The paper presents general review on the biogeochemistry of Be, studied since 1985 in the experimental forested catchment Lesní potok in the Èernokostelecko region, central Bohemia, the Czech Republic. Soil cover and the weathered rock represent the main source of Be in all compartments of the system, whether its atmospheric input is negligible. Be is very mobile element, whose output through the surface discharge strongly exceeds its inputs.
