Magnetic properties of soils and recent sediments are sensitive to presence of ferrimagnetic minerals. Present instruments and methods enable very sensitive determination of concentration of strong ferrimagnetics in the order of ppm. Ferrimagnetics in soils are of both primary and of different forms of secondary origin.
