    Diabetic rat hearts exhibit rather lower than higher sensitivity to ischemia. In acute phase of the disease, diabetic hearts are more resistant to irreversible cell damage, whereas in the chronic phase they exhibit reduced susceptibility to ventricular arrhythmias.
