Antagonisté NMDA receptorů mají silný antikonvulzační účinek, ale také výrazně nežádoucí vedlejší účinky. Kombinace podprahových dávek nekompetitivního antagonisty NMDA receptorů dizocilpinu sáantagonistou I. typu metabotropních glutamátových receptorů MPEP zesilovala antikonvulzační působení u mláďat laboratorního potkana.
Antagonists of NMDA receptors exhibit potent anticonvulsant action with marked unwanted effects. Combination of a subthreshold dose of noncompetitive NMDA antagonist dizocilpine with an antagonist of glutamate metabotropic receptors MPEP in immature rats resulted in potentiation of the anticonvulsant action.
