The aim of the study was to search for insulin resistance and ion transport abnormalities in the offspring of hypertensive parents (OHP). It was found that OHP displayed higher insulin resistance, enhanced activity of Na+/Li+ exchanger and augmented passive membrane permeability for monovalent cations (Li+, Rb+). Acute hyperglycemia did not modify ion transport parameters studied.
