Cardioprotective effects of long-term adaptation to chronic hypoxia and short-term preconditioning are not additive. The combination of both protective phenomenons did not provide better protection than preconditioning alone. Results of this study are in line with our hypothesis that long-term and short-term protection may share the same protective pathways, at least in part.
