Chronic hypoxia markedly altered fatty acid profile of phospholipids in rat ventricular myocardium. These changes, in particular the greater incorporation of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids into phospholipids, may contribute to improved ischemic tolerance of chronically hypoxic hearts.
