Studie se věnuje zkoumáním souvislostí mezi koncepcemi rané Frankfurtské školy (Adorna a Horkheimera) a teoretickým rámcem kulturální studií, tradičně považovaných za protikladné myšlenkové směry (zejména s ohledem na funkce a statut recipientů populární kultury). Kontradikce obou koncepcíse autor snaží překonat vypracováním své koncepce kritické hermeneutiky subjektivity.

The essay argues that the research practices commonly designated as "cultural studies" are the productive continuation of the epistemic interests pursued by the early Frankfurt School. The contradictions of both conceptions are surpassed by the author's conception of critical hermeneutics of subjectivity.
