The paper describes some experience gained from the specific evaluation procedure applied in the humanities and social sciences institutes. The process was based on the following set of main criteria: domestic and foreign publishing activities, participation in international scientific networks, grant competition success, long-term projects particularly relevant for national culture, and university teaching contribution. Such evaluation was performed in the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic between 1992 and 1993, and the first series of regular evaluations occurred between 1994 and 1996, with the second cycle coming between 2000 and 2001.
