The paper analyses the statistical data of the transformation of Czech science and research in the high school sector in relation to the university education and training. Itis shown that faced with the advancing trends towards economic globalisation (and a knowledge-based ecnonomy), the country is overcoming the existing delay in developing an efficient system of education and lifelong schooling, intertwined with science, research and an innovation system, while reducing the Czech Republic's gap in lagging behind the advanced countries.
