Results of theoertical and experimental investigation of the gas phase chemical generation of atomic iodine, I(2P3/2), for a chemical oxygen-iodine laser are presented. A method of generation of iodine atoms employs a principal reaction X+HI->I(2P3/2)+HX, where X=F or Cl. A computational modeling was based on the 1D flow development exploring the chemical processes within the reaction systems.
