We study the X-ray magneto-optical Faraday effect at the Fe L2,3-edges of ferromagnetic Fe, FeNi and FePt. Ab initio calculations based on the local approximation to spin density functional theory provide a very good explanation of the X-ray Faraday spectra measured at the Fe L-edge of FeNi films.
