The analysis of the inelastic neutron-scattering structure factors in Rochelle salt allows the authors to conclude that the soft mode eigenvector involves mainly relative displacments of the same three molecules of crystal water, which were found in recent structural studies to show the largest static displacments in the ferroelectric distortion.
