The book section is briefly reviewing electrochemical properties of DNA including electrochemical behavior of nucleic acid components, adsorption/desorption of nucleic acids and their redox reactions on different electrodes. Relations between structures and electrochemical responses of DNA, interactions of DNA with small molecules and DNA conductivity are also summarized. Focusing on the applications of current electrochemical techniques applied in nucleic acids analysis, this review presents analytical utilization in different bioelectrochemical fields, e.g. sensors for DNA hybridization, electrocatalytic reactions, damage to DNA bases, etc.
