This paper suggests that the Gravettian record from Moravia, with greater sedentism, elaborated resource exploitation systems, and innovations in technology and ideology, probably represents one of the early cases ofcomplex hunter-gatherer society. In addition, the paperaims to show how far may interdisciplinary approach toGravettian studies place these systems into broader environmental and social contexts. It is probable thatsuch a complex society would be more sensitive to theclimatical deterioration around the Last Glacial Maximum.
