A striated muscle of the hard palate has been previously described in some rodents and rabbits. It is not termed in the official veterinary anatomical nomenclature. The aim of this work was to verify the existence of this muscle. Heads of the golden hamster, the guinea pig, the laboratory rat, the field vole and the domestic rabbit have been dissected. Moreover, histological sections have been prepared from heads of th efield vole.

Příčně pruhovaný sval tvrdého patra byl již popsán u některých hlodavců a zajícovců. Cílem této práce bylo ověření existence tohoto svalu. Hlavy zlatého křečka, morčete, laboratorního potkana, hraboše mokřadního a králíka domácího byly preparovány. Z hlavových částí hraboše mokřadního byly navíc zhotoveny histologické řezy.
