Úvodem je stručně popsána historie ornitologického výzkumu tohoto ekosystému, který proslul jako dnes již zaniklé hnízdiště poštolky jižní (Falco naumanni) nebo mandelíka (Coracias garrulus). Je uveden seznam všech 124 doposud zaznamenaných druhů ptáků lednického lužního lesa (51 nepěvců a 73 pěvců); z toho u 92 druhů (37 nepěvců a 55 pěvců) bylo zjištěno hnízdění. Z hlediska ochrany přírody je významné, že některé druhy ptáků vyskytující se v lednickém lužním lese jsou klasifikovány jako ohrožené (16), silně ohrožené (23), kriticky ohrožené (7) anebo v ČR vyhynulé (1). Z druhů ptáků zaznamenaných zde jako hnízdící patří do kategorie ohrožených 13, silně ohrožených 14, kriticky ohrožených 2 a v ČR vyhynulých 1. I z tohoto prostého výčtu vyplývá význam lednického lužního lesa pro ptáky a konzervaci přírody.

A brief history is given of ornithological investigations of this ecosystem that was once famous as the regular breeding place of Falco naumanni and Coracias garrulus (beginning of the 20th century). The up-to-date list of recorded birds includes 124 species (51 non-passeriforms, 73 passeriforms); out of these, 92 spp. (37 non-passeriforms, 55 passeriforms) were recorded as breeding. From the point of view of bird conservation it is important that some locally recorded species are regarded as vulnerable (16), endangered (23), critically endangered (7) or extinct in Czechland (1). Of the bird species recorded here as breeding, 13 are regarded vulnerable, 14 endangered, two critically endangered and one extinct in Czechland. Even this simple inventory indicates the importance of the floodplain forest at Lednice for the bird fauna and conservation.
