The impact of acclimation and fluctuating thermal regimes on the cold tolerance of the tropical beetle Alphitobius diaperinus was examined. Acclimation at 15°C increased significantly the survival at a constant 5°C. Survival increased at alternating temperatures (5°C / 10 or 15 or 20°C). The effect of chilling was repaired completely at 25 and 30°C. The theoretical upper threshold of chill injury was 15°C in non-accliamted and 11°C in acclimated beetles
