Many features of the invasion of MATalfa cells lacking the Isw2 protein, a subunit of ISW2 chromatin remodelling complex, resemble pheromone-induced invasive growth. We show that pheromone induced surface protein Aga1 is necessary for this invasive behaviour. We also found that this invasion specifically requires Fus3 kinase whose function cannot be substituted by Kss1 kinase. Fus3p and Aga1p dependence distinguishes the isw2delta MATalfa cells invasion from the pheromone induced invasive growth
