Under what circumstances is it possible to rely on unassisted succession, and when is manipulation of spontaneous succession or technical restoration needed? Manipulation of succession consists on three approaches: (i) to accelerate succession towards a target stage, (ii) to reverse succession from a late to an earlier seral stage, and (iii) to adapt management of an existing stage. Manipulation of physical environment and biota is considered. Examples are given from mining sites, abandoned fields, secondary grasslands, heathlands and wetlands.

Zhodnoceny jsou možnosti a omezení využití spontánní nebo řízené sukcese v ekologii obnovy ve srovnání s technickými rekultivacemi
