The article deals with the preparation of novel types of capillary and microstructure fibers for detection of oxygen and toluene. The gases are detected by xerogel layers applied onto the walls of the air holes of the fibers by the sol-gel method. The layers are doped with Ru complex for oxygen detection and with methyl groups for toluene detection. Optical absorption at 1700 nm show the toluene sensitivity in a range of 0,005-3%. Fluorescence at 590 nm gives the oxygen sensitivity in a range 0,2-21%.
