    Appropriate anodizing of aluminum yields extended membranes containing aligned nanopores with pore diameters of a few tens of nanometers, high pore density, and well-defined porosity. Such membranes may be used for separation as well as for analytical purposes. These applications are associated with motions of molecules inside the pores.
