The importance of genetically modified plants for the protection of the environment is discussed with respect to GM plants with changed metabolic interactions influencing fate of xenobiotics in the environment, or plants with increased metal accumulation, or plants preventing use of excess pesticides by producing own insect pheromones.
Jsou diskutovány výhody geneticky modifikovaných rostlin při ochraně životního prostředí, jak pro odstraňování odolných organických sloučenin změnou metabolismu rostlin, tak zvýšenou akumulací těžkých kovů, či pro prevenci zbytečně vysokých dávek pesticidů díky využití GM rostlin produkujících hmyzí feromony.
