Cílem tohoto přehledu je shrnout současné poznatky o působení neurosteroidů na činnost GABA a NMDA receptorů a ukázat, jakým způsobem se tyto informace získané experimentálně in vitro odrážejí ve výsledcích behaviorálních testů na zvířecích modelech. Toto srovnání by mělo naznačit fyziologický význam a potenciální využití neurosteroidů jako regulačního mechanismu některých funkcí nervové soustavy

The aim of this article is to summarize the current knowledge about the neurosteroid effects on the function of GABA and NMDA receptors and to show to which extent these data from in vitro experiments are reflected in the results of behavioral tests using animal models. This comparison should suggest the physiological role and the potential therapeutic use of the neurosteroids as a regulator of some functions of the central nervous system
