In C57BL/6J mice, a strain with accelerated aging, we demonstrated that animals treated with atorvastatin for 2 months showed larger amplitudes of distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) than did the non-treated control group. This finding indicates a better survival of outer hair cell function in the inner ear and suggests that statins could also slow down the age-related deterioration of hearing in man.

U myší C57BL/6J, kmene s urychlených stárnutím, jsme objevili, že zvířata užívající atorvastatin po dobu 2 měsíců měla větší amlitudy distorzních produktů otoakustických emisí než kontrolní skupina. Tento nález dokládá lepší zachování funkce vnějších vláskových buněk ve vnitřním uchu a naznačuje, že by statiny mohli zpomalovat s věkem související zhoršování sluchu i u lidí.
