Single injection of mGluR5 antagonist MPEP in the effective dose (40 mg/kg) did not induce neurodegeneration in the brain of immature rats. In contrast, extensive neurodegeneration was found in the cerebral cortex, thalamus and hippocampus after injection of NMDA antagonist MK 801 (1 mg/kg).
