Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus,causing ring rot of potato,is a quarantine bacterium. Diagnosis of Cms is carried out by means of IFAS and bioassay on eggplant (EU directive No93/85/EEC), but PCR, ELISA and individual nutrient tests are also recomended. The most reliabe techniques appeared to be PCR, IFAS, FAA and bioassay with some difficulty for some rough Cms strains.

Celkem 57 Cms izolátů pocházejících ze 13 zemí (fluidní, intermediální a drsné kolonie) bylo testováno za účelem určení jejich genetické, imunochemické, biochemické a patogenní charakteristiky v ELISA testu, imunofluorescečním testu, PCR, dod blot hybridyzaci, systému BIOLOG, analýzou mastných kyselin, v testech patogenity na lilku a sekvenováním.
