Kamillo Horn a melodram

Úloha Fibichova současníka Kamillo Horna (1860 Liberec-1941 Vídeň) v hudební kultuře sudetských Němců, ale i rakouské Vídně je dosud nedostatečně zhodnocena. Absolvent pražské konzervatoře v oboru harfa a Brucknerův žák v kompozici prožil život jako učitel zpěvu a hudební teorie, sbormistr a hudební kritik, ale především jako skladatel. Je autorem řady komorních, klavírních i orchestrálních děl, těžisko jeho tvorby však leží v intimní písňové lyrice a sborových kompozicích. Zvláštní pozornost zde věnujeme jeho literárním inspiracím a charakteristice několika melodramů na texty německých klasiků i soudobých autorů, zvl. opusu 38 obsahujícímu tři krátké melodramy Der Fischer (Johann Wolfgang Goethe), Das Kind am Brunnen (Friedrich Hebbel) a Die Zwerge auf dem Baum (August Kopisch), vydanému v Lipsku 1908; a dále baladickému melodramu Graf Walter, op. 39.

Kamillo Horn and Melodrama

The position of Fibich's contemporary Kamillo Horn (1860, Liberec - 1941, Vienna) in the musical culture of the Sudeten Germans and Vienna is yet to be sufficiently studied. A graduate of the Prague Conservatory in harp, and Bruckner's student of composition, Horn spent his life as a teacher of singing and musical theory, conductor of a choir, and musical critic, but above all he was a composer. He authored a number of chamber, piano and orchestral works; his key interest, however, lay in lyrical love songs, and choir compositions. I focus on Horn's literary inspiration, and analyse several melodramas based on the texts of German classic and contemporary authors, for example Op. 38 containing three short melodramas Der Fischer (Johann Wolfgang Goethe), Das Kind am Brunnen (Friedrich Hebbel) and Die Zwerge auf dem Baum (August Kopisch), published in Leipzig in 1908; or a ballad-like melodrama Graf Walter, Op. 39.
