Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, hydrogen has been considered as fuel of the future addressing our needs in the long ran. However, the situation has become clearer as more and more countries have decided to embark on their ways towards decarbonised economies while utilizing the very smallest molecule. Hydrogen has already become an instrument for reaching the net-zero emission target of 2050. New projects of hydrogen-based technologies are being launched every week.
Therefore, it is very appropriate that the motto of Hydrogen Days 2022 reads ‚‚Hydrogen for Decarbonisation‘‘. Hydrogen is no longer a distant vision of some hydrogen enthusiasts. Hydrogen based technologies are globally recognized and step-by-step utilized in energy production, transport, and industry. However, there is still a very long way to go in order to achieve our goals. Similar to all emerging technologies, even hydrogen still needs to be further developed and tested regarding its practical applications. Only than we can explore its full potential. Nevertheless, hydrogen technologies have already progressed immensely and they are definitely capable to help us to build our sustainable and decarbonised future. In line with this rapid development is need of stronger collaboration on all levels. It is traditionally supported by the format the conference keeps. However, rapid development asks for more intensive promotion of collaboration. Therefore, Hydrogen Days 2022 take slightly modified form this year. The conference covers two formally independent, although closely connected events.
The Czech-German Hydrogen Day replaces first half-day of the conference program. It is to be held on March 23rd, at the Czernin Palace, the premises of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As a separate event, attendance will be free of charge. The programme of this day will focus, beside report on the current European, Czech and German national strategy in the hydrogen technologies development and implementation, on establishing and promoting collaboration between Czech and German innovators and entrepreneurs with the objective to identify areas of common interest. The event shall serve as a platform for deepening cross-border partnerships between various stakeholders and open-up new opportunities for research institutes and firms from both neighbouring countries. For that purpose, the event will also include a separate matchmaking session.
The Czech-German Hydrogen Day will be followed by the Hydrogen Days 2022 conference, an annual scientific gathering, on March 24th and 25th. The venue is the Comfort Hotel Prague City East. Following the already well-established structure, the Hydrogen Days 2022 will focus primarily on research and development of hydrogen technologies and present the progress made so far in turning hydrogen economy from laboratory experiment into the everyday reality.
Let us dive deep into the subject and see how the long-awaited future unfolds and how hydrogen technologies in their various applications are already serving our needs.
Karel Bouzek
Chairman of the Scientific Committee
