Both treatments facilitated the functional locomotor recovery of rats with SCI. Intrathecal application of iPS-NPs has a positive therapeutic influence (resulting in locomotor improvement, moderate tissue sparing and axonal sprouting) on SCI through a paracrine mechanism that does not require the presence of cells in the tissue. However, the extended survival of intraspinally grafted cells in the spinal cord may promote long-term spinal cord tissue regeneration.
