Many of these compounds represent industrial chemicals, chemical by-products, personal care compounds or pharmaceuticals. Aromatic compounds are usually chemically and biologicaly resistant. Bioremediation is often characterized as cost-effective and environmental friendly approach for the removal of contaminants from the environment. Various types of organisms could be employed. However, many of impediments can be overcome by the application of fungi for degradation. This chapter summarizes the knowledge of mechanisms involved in fungal degradation of various aromatic pollutants Pracoviště Mikrobiologický ústav Kontakt Eliška Spurná, eliska.spurna@biomed.cas.cz, Tel.: 241 062 231 Rok sběru 2012
