A special method of hot rolling of laboratory castings from the alloy Fe – 29.5 Al – 0.47 Si – 1.16 C (wt. %) was developed, preventing the origin of surface cracks in contact with the cold work rolls and enabling forming this material with the extremely low plasticity. The structure of the initial castings is characterized by a large heterogeneity, as far as mainly the distribution, shape, size and orientation of carbides Al4C3 is concerned. After the multi-pass hot rolling, the structure with grains stretched in the direction of rolling was achieved. The long-term annealing at temperature 1200 °C led progressively to crumbling of the greatest formations and, vice versa, coarsening of the finest grains. The present aluminium carbides hamper the static recrystallization of the investigated material very effectively.
