It shows that the Tuareg gene pool reveals both West Eurasian and sub-Saharan components. The West Eurasian mtDNA haplogroups observed in the extant Tuareg population were involved in the post-Last Glacial Maximum expansion that had spread from the Iberian refugia not only to Europe but as we can see here also to Africa. On the other hand, the Y chromosome data revealed in the Tuareg population sample allow some Near Eastern Neolithic influence. The time frame for the migration of an ancestral Tuareg population towards their contemporary locations coincides with Early – Middle Holocene climatic optimum in North Africa.
