AnotaceThe discovery of unusual pumpellyite-bearing assemblages in Permo-Triassic phyllites and synfolian veins from the Beni Mezala I unit is important, because it allows the comparison of the P-T conditions deduced from present parageneses. Pumpellyite is considered sensitive indicator of the metamorphic grade. The Federico units (from northern Rif belt) described here are well exposed near Ceuta (Spain enclave), where they are tectonically overlain by the Ghomáride terrane. The chemical data clearly indicate the presence of two populations of pumpellyite: a/ Fe-rich pumpellyite from actinolite-bearing assemblage, in equilibrium with Fe-rich epidote, and b/ pumpellyite richer in Al from actinolite-free veinlets in phyllite. The composition of the first population is typical of the low-grade pumpellyite described in the zeolite and prehnite-pumpellyite facies. This assemblage in pumpellyite-bearing rocks usually indicate pressures of ca 2 kbar and temperatures of ca 250 °C.
