AnotacePreparation of the model catalysts Pd/CeOx/W by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and their interaction with carbon monoxide were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) methods. Cerium oxide nanocrystalline layers 1 – 10 nm thick were grown in 1.2x10-6 mbar of oxygen onto clean tungsten surface by PLD at room temperature. Layers prepared by PLD were stable up to ~800 K and they did not reduce noticeably by X-ray irradiation during XP spectra accumulation. Interaction of the deposited CeO2 with W surface resulted in formation of WO3 oxide layer approx. 0.4 nm thick in the CeO2/W interface. The electrons left by the removed oxygen atoms from CeO2 reduced Ce4+ cations to Ce3+ oxidation state in the CeO2/W interface region. Palladium in the amounts ranging from 10-2 up to 1 monolayer equivalent (MLE) was deposited by PLD on CeO2 surface.
