It names the most important methods of current literary and cultural science, e.g. cultural tranfer, imagology or intercultural hermeneutics. One of the conclusions the study comes to is the fact, that the original opposition „East-West“, which used to be interpreted as the opposition of „Slavic-nonSlavic“, has been diminishing at present and individual cultures and literatures are accepted as a product of general European development. The second part of the study concentrates on the relation between Russia and Europe. At the end the author gives other connotations of the „East-West“ concept, which is expressed by the anticipation between Christianity and Islam, the theory of the end of the history or the absolute elimination of all contrasts in worldwide scale.
