Publikace diskutuje témata klíčová pro současné uvažování o genderové identitě, například kritiku distinkce pohlaví-gender, teorii performativity, diskurzivní teorii Michela Foucaulta, a další. Dále představuje v českém kontextu relativně novou metodu kvalitativní analýzy textu označovanou jako diskurzivní analýza. V druhé části knihy jsou představené „post“ teorie a metody uplatněny při detailních analýzách konkrétních genderových identit. Analýzy se soustředí na diskurzivní prostředky, jimiž je v daném sociohistorickém kontextu možné konstituovat sebe sama jako ženu či muže, a slouží autorce k úvaze nad překážkami i možnostmi změny genderových vztahů. Kniha je určena pro odbornou veřejnost zajímající se o nové kritické směry sociálněvědní teorie a výzkumu, genderové vztahy, identitu a kvalitativní metodologii. Překlad anotace The book Variations on the theme of gender discusses and applies poststructural and discursive theories of gender identity prevalent in social psychology, feminist theory and sociology. The book covers topics crucial for current research on gender identity, such as critique of sex-gender dichotomy, performativity theory, Foucault’s discourse theory, and others. In the second part of the book, the author employs the introduced ‘post’ theories and research methods to examine discursive constructions of specific gender identities. The analyses focus on discursive practices, which are employed by young, heterosexual Czech women and men to constitute themselves as gendered beings, or to refuse such identifications. Based on the analysis, the author reflects on limitations as well as possibilities of gender relations transformation. The book is aimed at students and researchers interested in new critical approaches to social theory and research, gender, identity, and qualitative methodology.
