A coupled formulation of a turbulent flow over a solid airfoil oscillating with two degrees of degrees of freedom for rotation and translation with large vibration amplitudes is considered. The flow is described by the incompressible Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations rewritten in Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) form. The Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model is used. The fluid flow is solved by the stabilized finite element method (FEM). The numerical results are compared with the results of optical measurements of flow field around a vibrating double circular are (DCA) 18% profile elastically supported in the wind tunnel. The numerical results for the time dependent pressure on the fluttering airfoil surface as well as the time dependent lifting force are in good agreement with the experimental data.
