We combine several recent innovations in the modelling of stand development and plant interactions. The fitting individual growth curves with Richards model show that seed-established trees are able to grow longer exponentially and hence to achieve larger stem diameter, are significantly taller with greater stem volume and experience less competition than asymptotically growing sprout-established trees.
