AChE inhibitory activity higher than 80 % was found in the crude extracts of the six Nostoc strains. Moderate AChE inhibitory activity over 40 % was found in seven Nostoc extracts. The chemical structure of the active metabolite responsible for acetylcholinesterase inhibition was identified in a crude extract of Nostoc sp. str.
