Two of waste materials from poultry houses are cartilage and feathers, whose disposal is currently performed by anaerobic fermentation for biogas production. It is uneconomic to mix these materials with other waste from slaughterhouse processing lines. Other methods of disposal of such wastes (e.g. incineration and composting) are problematic, badly-burnable and slowly decomposable. These materials naturally contain proteins such as collagen or keratin. Pure collagen is gelatin. It is used in food industry as an ingredient with a reduced fat content, and it serves as a food joint. Moreover, it supplies necessary amino acids and nutrition important for the regeneration of cartilage and skin, which also makes it highly usable for dermatological purposes.
