Energy supply to biological systems excites and sustains the state far from thermodynamic equilibrium, a necessary condition for life. Energy processing by mitochondria forms a strong static electric field which causes ordering of water, establishing conditions for generation of the electromagnetic field by microtubules. Disturbances of the energy supply system result in pathological states (disturbances of oxidative metabolism in cancer). Due to nonlinear properties of microtubule oscillations the frequency spectra of the electromagnetic field generated by cancer cells may be rebuilt and shifted in comparison to standard frequency spectra of the tissue. Tissue interactions are changed. A cancer cell disassociates itself from interactions with healthy cells, evades the regulation and control of tissue, and may move outside its assigned position. Mitochondrial dysfunction in cancers is distinct from the normal function in healthy cells and should be targeted for selective treatment.
