There is a part of the hoard of the bronze Macedonian coins from Svoboda near Plovdiv preserved in the numismatic department of the National Museum, ancient section. Some 18 pieces, almost certainly coming from the same hoard, entered the coin cabinet in Copenhagen in 1924. The hoard used to consist of 812 coins, and - a small part - some 72 coins survived up to date. The preserved pieces are mostly represented by bronze denominations produced under Philip II, six pieces were struck under Alexander III. The decisive majority of the preserved part is represented by 56 bronze coins of Philip II with head of Apollo on obverse and rider on reverse. Some six groups could be set up based on the characteristic features of their images. The later part of the hoard is represented by the units struck under Alexander III with head of Heracles in lion skin to right on obverse and quiver, bow, club and name of Alexander with various marks and symbols on reverse. The hoard must have been buried sometimes in the 320s BC at the earliest.
