The article examines parody as a form of cultural transfer that can create a special representation of the cultural "other". It does this by analyzing the American elements in Czech parody especially in the interwar Czechoslovak Republic, from 1918 to 1940. It focuses upon three works of Czech parody by Zdeněk Matěj Kuděj, the author with the pseudonym Mefisto and Jiří Brdečka. The analysis makes it clear that parody tended to look for correspondences rather than differences, and that America as represented by Czechs was projected as a nexus of ideas, values and institutions admired in the Czech world. It means that parody also resonated with the cultural flow of so-called Americanism and mediated positive image of America.
