Jde o teoretické vymezení problematiky antropologického studia tance zaměřeného na problematiku genderu a sociopolitických aspektů. Východiskem jsou poststrukturalistické tendence a zejména možnosti sémiotické analýzy. Důležitým bodem se stalo chápání tanečního projevu jako symbolu, kterému lze porozumět pouze pokud je součástí tzv. performance a poukázání na jeho multi-dimensionalitu. Zdůrazněna je přitom skutečnost, že tanec jako vizuální projev významně přispívá ke studiu genderových vztahů vzhledem k performativnosti genderu a že tanec má jedinečnou moc, díky které může současně podepírat i měnit existující sociopolitické struktury. V tomto smyslu je pak dále rozvedena možnost užití tance jako symbolu národní identity, kde podstatným prvkem je vědomá manipulace s tímto symbolem.

The contribution presents a theoretical definition of the dance anthropological study aimed at the issue of gender and social and political aspects. The aboved is based on post-structuralist tendencies and especially on possible semiotic analysis. The comprehension of dance expression as a symbol and the reference to its multi-dimesionality have become a significant point of the study.Dance as a visual expression significantly contributes to the study of gender realtions, especially because of the gender performativity. There is also pointed out the fact that dance disposes of unique power thanks to which it can support and change the existing social and political structure simultaneously. In this sense, there is developed the posibility to use the dance as a symbol of national identity whereby the deliberate manipulation with this symbol is an essentials element.
