Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) using carbon dioxide has been studied as a modern, environmentally friendly method to separate high-added value compounds from plants that allows dissolving preferably the required compounds by changing extraction conditions. SFE helps to obtain extracts with both TQ concentration and biological activity significantly higher than those isolated by conventional separation methods. This work is focused on TQ from black cumin seeds. To obtain higher concentration of the desired compound, SFE was applied with consequent fractionation of the extract in two separators maintained at different pressure and temperature. The efficiency of SFE in terms of TQ concentration in extract and yield was compared with the products of hydrodistillation and Soxhlet extraction.
