There are some widely accepted ideas in the scientific community concerning the relationship between the physical and perceived space. According to one of them is a perceived space increasingly compressed, that is spatial extent of in-depth stimuli should be larger in the increased distance in order to be perceived equal. Compression of the perceptual space in the direction away from the observer is automatically expected to be coupled with expansion of the perceptual space in the direction toward the observer. This assumption was tested in the experimental research and the results indicate that human observer follow strictly different heuristics in the two complementary directions. These two direction with respect to the observer’s position are geometrically equivalent, still they are not equivalent perceptually and phenomenologically. The notion of anisotropy of a perceived space should therefore be extended.
