In this report, we summarise highlights of a workshop sponsored by the Centre Europeen de Calcul Atomique et Moleculaire on the dissipative particle dynamics method (DPD) held during 16–18 July 2008, at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. We present our motivation for organising the workshop, followed by a description of the technical program, and finally a summary of a group discussion on future directions for the DPD method is given.
