The paper is focused on the types of metonymical relationships found in Czech toponymy. Ten types of metonymy are distinguished here: (1) metonymy based on a relationship between a neighbouring object and the object referred to by the name; (2) a "part" – "whole" relationship (synecdoche): the object is named according to another object found within its boundaries; (3) reversed synecdoche: the object is named according to its location within the boundaries of some larger object; (4) time-based relationship – toponyms reflect the existence of some extinct object once existing in the place of the current object; (5) names referring to the owner of the object; (6) relationship "people" – "place where the people live"; (7) "circumstance" – "object connected with the circumstance" relationship; (8) names denoting certain material extracted in the named locality; (9) "tool" – "result of the use of the tool" relationship; "motion" – "object affected by the motion" relationship.
