Mechanism of the reactions of O3 and OH with NaCl and NaBr aerosols above their deliquescence point was investigated in an aerosol chamber experiment, and heterogeneous reactions via OH...Cl and O3...Br surface complexes was proposed. Molecular dynamics simulations provide support for such reaction mechanism by showing that OH and O3 strongly prefer to reside at the air/water interface and make frequent contacts with chloride and bromide ions
